NEW YORK -- It may be the final event held at the classic Yankee Stadium facility, and will definitely be one that sets the organization's future in motion for years to come.
The No. 1 target of this offseason, CC Sabathia, is expected to be formally introduced by the New York Yankees on Thursday in a 1 p.m. ET news conference at the Stadium Club.

The Yankees could not immediately confirm that Sabathia and fellow new acquisition A.J. Burnett will be introduced side-by-side, a development that several media outlets have reported.

Sabathia and Burnett represent the Yankees' top two choices from the free-agent market as the organization aimed to upgrade its rotation after missing the playoffs in Yankee Stadium's farewell season.

Both hurlers agreed to wear pinstripes last week, with Sabathia agreeing to terms on a seven-year, $161 million deal and Burnett accepting a five-year, $82.5 million pact. The pitchers were in New York to complete physicals and finalize paperwork this week.

Following the introductory news conference, there is expected to be a photo opportunity across 161st Street, where Sabathia and perhaps Burnett will catch some of their first glimpses at the Yankees' new home -- rising quickly in anticipation of its first game action in April 2009.

The left-handed Sabathia was 17-10 with a 2.70 ERA last season for the Indians and Brewers. After switching teams in a July trade, Sabathia went 11-2 with a 1.65 ERA down the stretch in helping the Brewers make the playoffs for the first time since 1982.

In eight Major League seasons, Sabathia -- the 2007 American League Cy Young Award winner and a three-time All-Star -- holds a career record of 117-73 with a 3.66 ERA.
Burnett, a right-hander, set a career high in wins and placed fourth in the AL by going 18-10 with a 4.07 ERA for the Blue Jays before opting out of the final two years of his contract. In 10 big league seasons, Burnett is 87-76 with a 3.81 ERA.
