NEW YORK -- The Yankees moved Wednesday to bolster their Minor League depth chart, acquiring catcher and outfielder Eric Fryer from the Brewers for left-hander Chase Wright.

The 23-year-old Fryer played last season for the Class A West Virginia Power of the South Atlantic League, batting .335 (129-for-385) with 10 home runs and 63 RBIs in 104 games.

NEW YORK -- Phil Coke, who impressed the Yankees out of their bullpen as a late-season callup, was named to the Topps Double-A All-Star team on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Coke served in New York as a left-handed reliever after making his big league debut on Sept. 1. Coke started his season as a starter at Double-A Trenton of the Eastern League before being promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he adjusted to work out of the bullpen.

For the 2008 Trenton Thunder, the Eastern League affiliate of the New York Yankees and Best Double-A Team MiLBY Award winner, the celebratory scene was familiar and yet wonderfully different.

A year after capturing its first-ever Eastern League title at Akron in 2007, Trenton got to pop the champagne in front of 3,000 cheering fans at Mercer County Waterfront Park as the circuit's first back-to-back champion in over a decade.

The Thunder's 86-54 overall record featured their second-most ...

Saturday 5/31/08

YANKS GET BEST OF WINGS IN EXTRAS Despite Francisco Liriano pitching six plus innings of one-run baseball, the Rochester Red Wings lost, 5-2 in 10 innings, to the IL North Division-leading Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees on Saturday night at Frontier Field.

To make matters worse, the Wings finished up the month of May with a 10-20 record. It was their first 20-loss month since August 2002 when they went 11-20.

Even though it was a poor result for Rochester, things started ...

TAMPA, Fla. -- Andrew Brackman was a two-sport athlete in college, so he's understandably frustrated, because right now, he can't even play one.

"Every now and then I think, 'If I would've played basketball, would I have had to have Tommy John surgery?'" said Brackman, who excelled in both basketball and baseball at North Carolina State. "But I don't really have any regrets. I definitely wouldn't trade it in now."

After signing a $4.5 million deal with New York that ...

NASHVILLE -- The Yankees opened the Winter Meetings by dealing a prospect to upgrade their 2008 staff, but it wasn't the blockbuster many had anticipated could happen.

Instead, the Yankees agreed to acquire right-handed reliever Jonathan Albaladejo from the Washington Nationals late on Monday, parting with right-handed starter Tyler Clippard.

The deal has not been officially announced by either club pending both players passing physicals, but was confirmed by a Major League source with ...
